the first Popfest! New England in 2004

william’s band superfallingstars was the catalyst to create Skipping Stones Records

William Knapp and Christine Jewell operated a DIY indie music label, Skipping Stones Records, from 2004 – 2010, releasing indie music worldwide. The label began with its first release by superfallingstars, swimming across the sound. William named the label after his memories of skipping stones along the beach with his dad. The recordings were done in the basement of SSR HQ on a 4-track cassette, with William mixing and mastering, as well.

“This Connecticut trio play catchy and likeable guitar pop … The band sound
like a chunkier, garagey version of The Descendants, and Sembos’ earnest,
innocent vocals even resemble that band’s Milo Aukerman.”

Mark Suppanz, Big Takeover magazine #55, December, 2024

Christine tackled the publicity and quickly created an enviable mailing list. The one sheet was also designed by Christine; superfallingstars one sheet.

Popfest! New England

William and Christine planned their first Popfest! New England in Northampton, Mass. in 2004. They also started a tradition of driving to Athens, Georgia for the Popfest run by Happy Happy Birthday To Me (HHBTM) records.
